Spring and Summer

SPRING FLING 2008

Our ninth annual Spring Fling is fast approaching. This is our main fundraising event of the year. The evening, on Friday May 9th from 5:00 to 8:00p.m.is a great event as the entire family can participate and have a lot of fun.
We will have several large Raffle prizes such as PSP, ipod touch, Dinner & Theatre, Bike, Wii system, Home Depot gift certificate, Landscaping Package, Photography Session and more.
Some of the features of the Spring Fling are Potluck Community Dinner, Bake sale, Kids Toonie Table, Raffle Prizes, Bazaar table, Games and a great community feeling.
GMS is still accepting donations for both the Toonie and Bazaar tables. If you have gently used toys, DVD'S, decorative items, etc., please deposit them in one of the boxes around the school marked "Spring Fling Donations".
This week you will find the raffle tickets with a family participation form in your family file. With your R.S.V.P. please indicate which dish you would like to bring for our potluck dinner.
We thank you in advance for your anticipated support.

If you have taken pictures during any of the school events, please submit a CD copy to the office for our 2007-08 Yearbook.

GMS PARENT SOCIAL EVENT

On Saturday evening, May 31st, GMS will host a Parent only event. The evening features a stage hypnotist show, courtesy of Rene Olsen (Jenna's Dad) followed by games and contests - Ping Pong, Big Screen Wii games, Poker, Black Jack, Darts and a Cash Bar. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. with the show starting at 7:45 p.m.
Please mark this date on your calendar!
Invitations and further information will be given at a later date.

JUMP ROPE for HEART

On Tuesday, May 27th all students will participate in our fifth annual "Jump Rope for Heart" event. In addition to your donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, our school is eligible to earn points towards sports equipment. With last year's points the students have ordered Baseball gloves, bats, teampinnies, soccerballs, floor hockey set, cots and more.
With your generous donations, GMS has raised a total of $12,770 in the last four years!
An Information package will be distributed at the beginning of May. Please have all pledges collected and returned to school on or before Friday, May 23rd!

PARENT / TEACHER INTERVIEWS

On Wednesday, May 28th we will conduct our Parent/Teacher Evening Interviews from 6:00 - 8:30p.m. We will continue our Parent/Teacher interviews all day Friday, June 08th from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
These interviews allow parents and teachers to discuss each student's progress, behaviour and overall experience in class. This is an opportunity to raise issues or concerns in regards to your child in school.
The Interview schedule is extremely busy - parents are asked to arrive on time and to respect the 15 minute time allowance for each interview.

HEALTH UNIT ALERT

The WDG Public Health continues to track Measles cases in our community.
Signs and Symptoms:
(At first the symptoms are similar to a cold) Fever, Runny Nose, Red Eyes, Sensitivity to Light, White spots in the Mouth.
Three to four days later, a blotchy rash appears around the ears and face. The rash then spreads to the rest of the body.
If your child is ill:
Stay Home - Call your Doctor and inform the school and the Health Unit immediately.
